LCD and Plasma Reviews

I have been looking at the above LCD TV's but I'm not sure which one to buy. The difference seems to be the speaker systems with the 600 having speakers at the front that appear to the novice (me) to be fairly small. The price difference between the two is about £350, which would possibly buy me a reasonable surround sound system. I am wondering whether to go for the cheaper set and buy something like the BOSE cinemate (I need a three speaker system) or whether the Panasonic 600 with the improved speakers should be sufficient. I have asked the local dealers but they have given me three different answers. Any advice would be gratefully received.

I purchased a Samsung LE23r41B in May and was very happy with it overall. However, it developed a sound crackle so went to the service centre. Unfortunately, the courier dropped it on the return journey so it is now completely broken and the supplier isn't able to supply like-with-like as I believe that it is no longer in production. Can anyone recommend a good alternative - needs to be less than £500 and no bigger than the Samsung due to space limitations.

50 inch plasma tv's are now coming down in price significantly. They seem to all have the 1366 x 768 pixel screen and have quite a wow factor. Has anyone out there got one and can give an opinion? I am particularly interested in the Philips 50PF9967D.

I dont know about you, but i surely dont like when a plasma TV looses its picture after a few years. Sure, the plasma is thin, but thats all it has. The picture quality is nothing near a projection lcd or even lcd. added to that, they are much cheaper and an all around better investment.

Each to his own I suppose. Plasma's last around 25,000 hours. Even at 5 hours per day average that would be 14 years! And that is the point when they may start to lose their contrast. Can't see an LCD being better than a plasma for picture quality. They are too bright - well suited for cartoons I suppose, if that's what you watch, or for computer use.

There are some amazing quality 50" Plasma screens available on the market now. The PDP-506XDE is for sure, the best plasma available on the market. Cheaper alternatives such as the Samsung PS50Q7HD and the LG 50PX4D are also good HD Ready screens.

Hi, i bought a techwood 4210 plasma screen from currys and the picture is crap (looks like a washed out painting) the only way to get rid of it is to turn up the brightness to 100. What i was wondering is if anyone else has experienced this, if so is there a way to sort it out.

I have the one before yours the 4205 42 inch plasma. It took about 4 weeks for the picture to settle down but when it did I set the contrast/brightness/colour seperately for each of the inputs - they are set seperately.

I bought the Techwood and have the exact same problem with the Blurr I only recieved it last week and I will try to return it if this does not improve ,I dont advise anyone to buy one pay the extra for a brand name I wish I had. Anybody who can give advice on grounds for returning this let me know.

Got about £1300 to spend on a new TV. I presently have a Toshiba 28inch pro logic tv, its still has agreat picture but i have had it nearly ten years( goog value paid £900 for it).Ive looked at loads of examples, but frankly thats just confused me.Added to which the salesmen at Comet and Currys tell me that to get the equivalant sound that I would need to buy DVD based surround sound system????? Any advice would be great???

For the DVD surround sound system, have you looked at the new Sony DAV-x1? It's a 2.1 system with the delivery of a 5.1.

This is where I show my ignorance because I don't have a clue what it means but, according to the Sony website, the DAV-x1 uses "precise DSP calculation rather than wall reflection" thus creating the best possible sound digitally regardless of room environment. Hope it means something to you!
